Open Position: Assistant Professor (Full-time)
The Shinagawa Laboratory in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Tokyo is inviting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position.
We welcome applications from early-career researchers with a strong interest in system software, broadly defined. Target areas include operating systems, security, distributed systems, databases, and FPGA systems. The successful candidate is expected to actively pursue top-tier conference publications in the relevant fields. The position also requires teaching classes in Japanese, including the System Programming Exercise, and handling various university administrative duties in Japanese.
Position Overview
- Title and number of positions: One Assistant Professor
- Expected start date: December 1, 2025 or as early as possible thereafter (negotiable)
- Term: 5 years
- Renewal: Possible once for an additional 5 years
- Workplace: Hongo Campus, The University of Tokyo (7-3-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo)
- Responsibilities: Conduct research and education in system software within the Department of Computer Science, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology. Teach the System Programming Exercise.
- Salary: Commensurate with academic background and experience; includes a merit-based salary increase system
- Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree obtained by the time of appointment
- Sufficient research record in the area of system software
- Proficiency in Japanese to teach classes, supervise students, and perform university duties
